The Winchester Scholarship Foundation has allocated $575,000 to Winchester High School graduates or Winchester residents graduating from technical schools for the coming academic year. These scholarships will be awarded for both undergraduate and graduate education.
Deadlines to submit applications are May 31 for graduating Seniors and July 15 for ongoing college students and graduate students. Applications can be obtained from the Winchester High School Guidance Office. The newly revised website also contains an application which can be downloaded. The website can be accessed at www.winchestersf.org.
The Winchester Scholarship Fund can award in excess of one half million dollars because of the generosity of the Winchester community. During WSF’s 77-year existence, 53 endowed scholarship funds have been created and provide the majority of the scholarships awarded to Winchester High School graduates. During the past year, three scholarship funds were created to honor John J. Sullivan, Bob Bigelow, and Tyler Antonevich.
Currently, two community fund-raising endeavors are creating two additional endowed scholarship funds. One fund will honor Donna Gildersleeve’s life-long service to the Winchester School System. A group of Donna’s co-workers are orchestrating this activity with most of the Winchester Sports teams contributing as well as many parents of Winchester athletes. Another endowed fund will recognize Kathy Bodie’s fifty years devoted to education at many levels. Kathy recently retired after 15 years as Superintendent of the Arlington School System. Kathy feels that our teachers are the backbone of our education system. The Kathy Bodie Scholarship Fund will support a WHS graduate, who aspires to be a teacher.
